Abstract

Intrinsic Mesoporosity in Ribbons of Crystalline Titanium Oxyacetate

Abstract: Reaction between titanium salts and acetate ligands typically favors the formation of
small and discrete titanium oxo clusters. However, in this work, we report a crystalline titanium
oxyacetate (TiOA) that exhibits intrinsic mesoporosity despite being assembled solely from
titanium–oxygen–acetate building units. The TiOA system unexpectedly self-assembles into
ordered ribbon-like architectures containing honeycomb mesopores. High resolution
transmission electron microscopy directly visualizes pores with diameters of approximately 18
Å, in excellent agreement with pore size distribution derived from nitrogen sorption
measurements (17.6 Å), providing strong evidence for intrinsic mesoporosity. These findings
demonstrate an unusual assembly mode for titanium oxyacetates and may provide new
opportunities for the design of porous titanium-based materials beyond conventional framework
structures.
